Retreat venues are a category of their own: mountain temples, hot spring estates, garden courtyards. The setting is half the practice.
Where the architecture is part of the medicine.
Retreat venues in China tend to fall into three families: mountain temples (often working Buddhist or Taoist monasteries with attached guesthouses, an unmatched quiet and a sense of continuity), hot spring estates (private villas with onsen-style pools, often in volcanic regions like Tengchong or Anji), and garden retreats (classical Suzhou-style courtyards or modern rural builds in the Yangtze Delta).
The common thread is space, silence, and a kitchen that treats food as medicine. The rooms tend to be spare and beautiful; the public areas tend to be generous; the staff tend to be unhurried.
Amenities, room types, and the day-to-day.
From monastic single rooms to private stand-alone villas. Most retreats offer a range; we will match you to the right level of privacy and budget.
A dedicated yoga shala, meditation hall, or tea room is standard. Hot spring retreats have separate onsen pools. Garden retreats have walking paths, koi ponds, and quiet benches.
Three meals a day, almost always plant-forward, often fully vegetarian. Menus are designed in conversation with the practice schedule — light in the morning, restorative at night.
Most retreats offer Wi-Fi, but coverage in mountain temples can be slow. This is intentional. We will tell you in advance if your venue is a true “digital detox” setting.
Why going through us helps.
Most retreat venues do not list on international booking platforms, or they list with limited availability. Going through HealtimesRetreat gives you access to the full calendar, the best rooms, and the right practitioner match for what you are working on.
We have personally visited every venue we book. When you arrive, the team on the ground already knows your name, your practice level, and any dietary or medical needs. The first conversation does not have to be about logistics — it can be about why you came.
Tell us what kind of place you are drawn to — and we will suggest three venues to consider.
